Bhangra Music Magazine Double Page Spread

Bhangra Music Magazine Content Page

Evaluation of Bhangra Music Magazine Front Cover

With the front cover of my magazine I had used existing Bhangra music magazine covers to give me an idea of what I need to consider on mine when I create it. The magazine that I used was Brit-Asian, this is a magazine which consists of magazine British and Asian artist interviews and life stories about their life and what they have been doing and what they plan to do in the future.

With my front cover I wanted to keep it simple and not too crowed with too much information, having too much information can put my intend audience (16-21 year old girls) off from reading the magazine as it would like unattractive to purchase. I kept the information on the cover minimal as possible and used a large image with two models. Using a large image draws quick attention to the audience, I also made the title of the magazine red, the colour red is eye catchy and is a sign of danger, this would attract the audience and may consider buying it.

I used a range of different fonts on my front cover, by using different font types had enabled my cover to look like an actual music magazine, all the colours that I used on my cover are all in similar tones; the blue I made the models wear bring attention to the page as the background of the image is a brown/black colour.

The layout of the page is very similar to the Brit Asian Magazine I evaluated previously; I intended to add a Punjabi touch by making the first letter of each word on my title a different font. By using a unique font makes the page look more effective.

How has this research influenced my editorial decisions?

By looking at the front covers, double page spreads and the content pages; I have come to the decision that I will be creating a Bhangra magazine, the reason why I chose this genre is because this genre is well known in the Asian community and they would like to provided with more information about Bhangra. However by looking at all of these pages the content page is the most important of the magazine as this gives the reader snippets of what’s inside the magazine. This means that I would have to ensure my content page is visually appealing as well as containing relevant information for the reader. I intent to use all the artists I am going to be including on my front cover and my double page spread as the content page contains most of the vital information. On my content page I may include a quote from my interview with my chosen artist.

Content Page Analysis

This content page is from the Music Magazine Vibe, the genre of this magazine is Hip Hop. Having Ciara on the on contents page shows her importance in the music genre of Hip Hop, as well as in this particular issue. This one large image of Ciara shows that she has been successful with some of her singles or achieved high votes in her latest singles which would bring her to the image to the content page.
Ciara is an artist from the United States, which attract readers and fans as they would be interested to see if she has released any new singles, has any forth coming singles or if she has any plans to do a tour around the world. The effortless gradient colours of the content page bring out the image of Ciara clearly. By having a basic colour scheme will attract more readers by looking more sophisticated. The Vibe magazine content page is very different to NME’s content page; it is less busy. This might be because it is a monthly magazine, and more expensive, therefore it has to look more expensive to appeal to a readership that values looking smart.

Front Cover Annotation

This is the front cover of Brit - Asian, this is a magazine from the Bhangra genre. With the close up shot of Jay Sean it shows the significance of his artist lifestyle the sunglasses, leather jacket this also shows the importance of these to the readership. His image has been placed over the main title of the magazine which draws the readers straight to the image of Jay Sean. The colour scheme which has been used for this front cover is basic, keep a small range of colours. The colours are Black which cool, sophisticated; gold which represents luxurious, precious. This would attract the readership because they would be influenced by this style of clothing and his lifestyle, too many colours would make the cover look too crowded; keeping the colours simple attracts sophisticated readers as it looks more professional than the colourful front covers from other leading music magazines, particularly from the pop genre. The quote underneath Jay Sean’s name is “I came, I saw, I conquered” this is a quick and easy quote to remember and eye catching for the reader as they would want to read more about Jay Sean and what he has been up to in the past and what the future plans are, this quote is something that is said once but remembered always. Brit-Asian is a different magazine compared to the NME or Kerrang. As I am creating a Bhangra magazine myself I will be looking into the characteristics of this particular magazine to help me with me with my magazine.
